About the Organization

The SONKU Creative Writers Co-op was created in 2018 to serve as a space for Black & Brown page writers on Temple University’s campus to foster community, connect, and collaborate with one another.

Our intention is to ensure that the organization is utilized as a creative and constructive space. It is a place that writers can bring their work and ask for feedback, criticism or opinion.

Once a year, SONKU publishes a curated literary magazine to showcase the work of co-op members, as well as Black and Brown artists outside of the Temple University community.

SONKU accepts global submissions from writers with specialty in all genres, as well as other Black and Brown artists creating in all mediums for our annual literary magazine.

The schedule of the SONKU Literary Magazine follows the collegiate academic year. Submissions open in September at the start of the fall semester and close on March 1st to be reviewed in time for publication at the end of the spring semester in May.
