Submission Guidelines

  • All work submitted to the SONKU literary magazine must be original work. Those artists found to have submitted work belonging to another artist will have their submissions automatically rejected, and be banned from submitting work in the future.

  • All work submitted to the SONKU literary magazine must be previously unpublished. This includes publishing via personal blogs or platforms. The work should be completely unknown to the public upon the time of submission. We do accept concurrent submissions, but ask that you follow up with an email if you work is accepted to another publication.

  • Only work submitted by Black and Brown artists of will be accepted into the magazine. This includes exclusion of work created by white allies regarding the subject of racially marginalized groups. Priority will also always be given to work submitted that depicts Black and Brown people, rather than white subjects.

  • We do accept submissions from East Asian artists.

  • If your work is accepted with suggestions of revisions, a revised version of the work or statement of appeal for unrevised work to be included must be submitted by the selected date, or submissions will not be included in the completed version of the magazine.

  • All submissions received after midnight on March 1st will automatically be included with submissions for the following year’s annual literary magazine.
